Levitation Austin artist spotlight: MIEN

Psychedelic supergroup MIEN will be making their live debut at Levitation Austin this year (April 27th at Stubb’s BBQ starting 7:30pm).  The band consists of members of the Black Angels, Elephant Stone, the Horrors, and the Earlies.  Their set will surely be one of the highlights of the festival, so don’t miss it.

Levitation Austin artist spotlight: Follakzoid

Another Chilean psych-rock band that will play Levitation Austin this year is the cosmic trio of Follakzoid.  I first heard of these cats a few years ago and put them on a list of bands I wanted to research.  Now I’ll get to see them live, which is the best research one can do on a new band.  They’re closing Barracuda on April 27th with their 12:30am set.  It’s sure to be a great cap on the evening.

Levitation Austin artist spotlight: The Men

make music that is hard to describe.  It lands somewhere between punk, garage rock, and noise rock.  It’s full of fury and powerful riffs and their Levitation Austin set (April 27th at Barracuda, starting at 11:30pm) will surely be one of the loudest at the whole festival.  I’m glad I have new earplugs.

Levitation Austin artist spotlight: Vuelveteloca

One of the many things I love about Levitation Austin is how it brings in bands from all over the world that I probably wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.  One such band is Vuelveteloca from Chile.  They’re part of the apparently large psychedelic rock scene there, and I’m keen on hearing these guys live.  Psych rock is always a mind trip, and hearing it from unexpected places tends to make it trippier.  They’re playing April 27th at 10:30 at Barracuda.

Levitation Austin artist spotlight: Golden Dawn Arkestra

Austin, Texas’ psych-funk playing, sun worshipping Golden Dawn Arkestra will be closing out a night of exciting world music jams at Levitation Austin on April 27th at Cheer UpsGDA put on a wild set when I saw them in 2016 that had the whole crowd bouncing.  I’m sure it will be another funky ritual this year.

Levitation Austin announces further lineup acts for 2018 festival.

The latest additions to the lineup for Levitation Austin have been announced, and (no surprise) they’ve added more great acts.  Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees adding second shows is great news for fans who couldn’t make one or the other.  Count me in for Segall’s Friday show, especially since Ron Gallo will also be playing the same night and location.  Other additions that caught my eye are No JoyTrue WidowPow!L.A. WitchJjuujjuu, and Holy Wave.

It’s quickly getting to the point where set times will be announced and sacrifices will have to be made to determine which shows we can make.  Plus, tickets will go even faster once set times are determined.  Don’t wait much longer to get your tickets.

Levitation 2018 first lineup announced.

The first wave of lineup announcements for Levitation Austin 2018 has been released, and (as usual) it’s great.

The festival is no longer being held at the Carson Creek Ranch, but rather at multiple venues in downtown Austin like Stubb’s BBQ, Empire, Barracuda, and more.  You can buy tickets for the individual shows, which vary in price.  They offered full weekend passes for all shows for $400.00 (quite a price jump from previous years), but they sold out in minutes.  Screw you, ticket buying robots!

Regardless, the first lineup already has many great artists on it.  Rishi Dhir of Elephant Stone will be performing solo and with a new venture he has called Mien.  Dead Meadow, Thee Oh Sees, Slowdive, the Black Angels, Electric Wizard, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ministry, Chelsea Wolfe, Ty Segall, Golden Dawn Arkestra, Imarhan, the Men, and Al Lover are all stand-outs.

Don’t wait too long to get tickets.  Tickets to individual shows at the 2016 festival sold out quick and many tickets went to scalpers who flipped them at outrageous prices.  More announcements are due in the early part of 2018, and that will only cause tickets to sell faster.
